Protein tertiary structur analysis?
How we can analyze the protein tertiary structure, what are the different bio-informatics tool? Tell me about both online and off line tools which are used for tertiary structure analysis of proteins.
I believe that tertiary protein structures are determined via two main methods - X Ray crystallography and NMR (nuclear magnetic resonance). X Ray crystallography means that the proteins are actually converted into a crystalline form, xrays then are directed at this crystal, and the data the computer receives converts this information into a 3-D structure. X-Ray Crystallography is good because it gives a very accurate picture of proteins. NMR gives an idea of what proteins look like in solution. Also, as the data bank of known protein structures and protein families are developed, educated guesses about unknown protein structures are getting better all the time through computer models that estimate what the molecule looks like. Hope that helps.
