What are some easy ways to get vegetarian protein?

I have been a vegetarian for almost two years now. I'm not getting enough protein in my diet. (I am a thirteen year old girl.) I have tried protein powders that supply enough protein, but they taste nasty. Protein shakes and snack bars are too expensive for me. What are some things I can do to add protein without eating meat?

Are you eating enough calories per day?

If you eat three balanced, varied meals per day and healthy snacks you should have no problem getting plenty of protein.

Most everything contains protein - but try hummus on a toasted whole wheat bagel, bean tacos, fortified cereal with soy milk (there is a Target brand of high protein cereal that is yummy), Cliff Nectar bars (the chocolate/walnut one tastes just like a brownie), trail mix with nuts and dried fruit, tempeh bacon sandwich on whole wheat....and on and on.

Understanding popular sources of Proteins

The role of protein in maintaining the health and strengthening the human immunity is well understood and well documented. The advantages of vegetarian protein source, along with protein obtained from animal meat and poultry product is common knowledge in every household and family. Vegetarian food
Food has been the primary source of protein for human bodies, ever since. Nature helped us design our daily meals in such a manner that people, irrespective of their geographical conditions, got sufficient protein intake via their diets. The vegetarian protein source includes pulses, grams, vegetable, etc. which are easily available and constitute a balanced diet. Whey
It is another, very popular vegetarian protein source which is the mainstay of grueling training regime of body builders and strength trainers. They are especially desirable after heavy workouts, as they can quickly replenish the protein in the body. Casein
It is a special category of proteins derived from milk sources. The metabolism and subsequent absorption of casein protein is a lengthy process and takes longer than most other vegetarian protein source. Ideally, it should be taken when the body has the time to break it down and recuperate, like settling in the bed for the night.

Soy
Soy deserves separate mention because they are amongst the top vegetarian protein source known to mankind. With 43 gm of protein per 100 gm, they fare better than most pulses and provide variety of other nutrients as well. They are available in form of beans, oils, milk, flakes, curds, granules and variety of other edible products. For those refraining from meat and other animal products, soy is an excellent food supplement and helps in building muscles. It being easily digestible is another added charm.
